Hey,

I have tried having this conversion on other forums but it always gets out of hand with people flaming eachother. I just want to have a conversation about the subject and hear peoples thoughts on it and maybe clear some rumors about it up. There are many people who think it's bad and that it's very bad for your lungs. Me being from Canada I smoke it regularly so I don't have a problem with it. The only factor I can see is that it is bad for the lungs as is any smoke to inhale. I was thinking for medical reasons, if they extracted the THC from inside the plant and simply put it in canisters and distrubute it to patients much like anesthesia. That way there is no lung damage from inhaling the smoke and the patients can be given certian dosages to scale rather than having to smoke up.

Say what you have to say. All opinions welcome.

My last comment on the subject...drink or smoke responsibly. But whatever you choose to do, don't do it just because someone said it was alright. It may not be right for you.

I DO NOT encourage anyone to do any form of drugs but if you do----know YOUR limitations!

sorry wasnt shouting maybe i'm abby normal but it has never affected me the way some of your responses have described i drive while high on weed and it dont impare my judgement any i've even taken a state administered driving test and passed with a road test so dont give me that crap about comparing weed to drinking and i used to drink and drive but after 2 d.u.i's and a couple of bad single car accidents i realized the dangers of it but weed has never made me wreck a vehicle nor run over and kill somebody

Steve, actually no. My knowledge of the law is quite correct. The law says "Driving while impaired" and what applies to alcohol also applies to drugs, including marijuana.
What happened to your friend is that previously, one had to VOLUNTEER to test for drugs, while now since November 1 2004, the policer officer will REQUIRE the suspect to be subject to the drug test.
The law against impaired driving was always there, except that before the police couldn't force you to take the test to prove that you are on drugs. Now they can.

I've smoked pot for years o an occassional basis. If it were legalised but under restriction like alcohol or tobacco I think it would improve things. If it were controlled in this way, it could be quality controlled and minors would find it much harder to get hold of it (I believe that the fall in illegal dealing would be proportional to the drop-off in illegal alcohol peddling seen in the USA after Prohibition was withdrawn). The controls in Holland, which I have visited a few times now, are a perfect model. Coffee shops are incredibly stringent and ID anyone who looks under 25 as a matter of course, even though the law only forbids sale or use by under 18s. Furthermore there are reasonable restrictions on how much you can buy.

Steve, here is my problem. Hippy has come to terms with his past. Webgizmos has lived fifty years and has a philosophy of his own. Many of us, like HGE and myself and many others on this thread, have smoked pot. I have also dropped acid, smoked crack, taken speed, downers, ludes, rush... cigarettes, alcohol. Now my love is coffee, an admitted addiction, also.

But you seem to believe that all of these "statistics" by non users are all false, and that the experiences of those who smokedd and quit for good reason, are all wrong. What gives you such incredible insight that nobody else has? Why is your "human" body so superior to the bodies of us mere mortals? You created a great windowblind, but cannot learn from the experience of others?

One difference between humans and animals is our ability to record history and learn from our mistakes. But I'll be damned if humans choose to learn from other's mistakes. We all choose to make the same mistakes and then learn. Are you smart enough to listen to people more than twice your age? Are you willing to listen to those who have lost loved ones? Are you willing to listen to people in the medical community? Or are you smarter than all of them?

I have one more thing to say, and then (hopefully) I will leave this thread to those that have more insight than I do. I would like any of you to prove that standing in the middle of a freeway is bad for me. I have done it often, and have never been hit. I have a couple of friends that do it on weekends (and they are successful engineers and doctors). I even know a man who stood on I-55 here in Illinois every day during rush hour and he lived to be over 90. My mother told me not to play in the street, but I think she had some personal agenda. My Dad told me I was being an idiot, but he couldn't see how standing there on that yellow line made me feel so alive. Some people told me to try a brain on for size, but they had never tried it, themselves. What do they know? I had a O.R. nurse try too convince me by showing me pics of people that had been hit by cars, but I'm not that dumb to get hit.
Really. I want someone to prove to me that standing in the middle of a freeway is bad for me.

I'm done! Again!!

Just made some whole wheat pasta with olive oil, 4 cloves of garlic, 1/2 sweet onion, a bit of salt and a boat load of parmesian cheese. Anyone hungry? I'm high on that aroma, right now.

Different folks may have different experiences with marijuana, just like with other drugs. It actually has stimulant, depressive, and hallucinogenic properties. As in most conversations with those who use the drug, I find that they mostly focus on how they are not impaired. Might be true for them, however, research and common sense dictate impairment. That's why it is considered a "mood and mind altering chemical". Addiction is possible, and probable, in long term chronic use. The easiest type of addiction to identify here is psychological addiction, however, physical addiction is also something to look for. Physical addiction is usually not noticeable due to the "apparent" lack of withdrawal symptoms. I say apparent because the THC stores in the fatty tissue of the body and leaves so slowly that it provides a cushion against withdrawal symptoms.

first- making comparisons to others chemicals is an ignorant approach. Lets take Maijuana on it own. Thousands are killed by "toked" drivers every year. Is this okay?

second: abilities. long term use of any drug will have permanent effects on a person - so much for winning skinning contests.

third: consequences. If you kill someone close to me while driving "toked" do I then have the right to fry your balls while you watch?

Sleeping dragon rubs his chin.

I'll bet Steve doesn't even smoke. Just wanted a thread with 120 responses. Smart thinking, Steve.
